When I was younger, my Dad was constantly challenging us to memorize. Whether it was a scripture, poem, the Books in the Book of Mormon, or the order number of the Latter-Day Prophets, he was constantly challenging us to learn the gospel in memorable ways. To teach us the order number of the Latter-Day Prophets, he would randomly call out a number. He would give us about two seconds to answer. If we got the number wrong he would often say, "Did you see that $50 bill flying out the window? It would have been yours had you guessed the right Prophet!" If we got it right, he would pat us on the back, and give us a quarter, or tell us we earned our lunch money for the day. As you can imagine, my Dad loved to tease! I have many happy memories that I will forever cherish as a child.
One particular scripture I remember my Dad challenging us to memorize is: D&C 88:119:
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;"
It has been a goal of mine to establish such a house like this. Today I listened to a talk that has been helpful along my journey. I love how we are encouraged to pattern our homes after the Temple. Establishing a "House of Order" is definitely a journey. This talk has helped put into perspective the best place to start!
